About Us

Support Lunch was established in 2024.  We envision a future where every student can learn, grow, and thrive without the barriers of hunger or shame.

Support Lunch was founded on one simple yet powerful belief: EVERY CHILD DESERVES ACCESS TO  LUNCH AND ALL SCHOOL ACTIVITIES REGARDLESS OF FAMILY FINANCES.

OUR STORY

Support Lunch was born from compassion and conviction. Founder David Zobel was deeply moved by a news story about a young elementary school student who had been publicly shamed for having unpaid lunch debt. As the parent of twin preschoolers at the time, David was heartbroken by the idea of any child being denied a meal due to circumstances beyond their control.

Determined to make a difference, he brought together educators, parents, and community advocates to take action. From that moment, Support Lunch was founded — with a mission to erase lunch debt, restore dignity, and ensure every child can fully participate in school life without financial barriers.

Meet the founder

David Zobel

Born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, David Zobel is the founder and driving force behind Support Lunch. With a strong commitment to equity and compassion, David created the organization to eliminate school lunch debt and ensure every child has access to meals and participate in all school activities—regardless of family finances.

A business attorney by profession, David brings a practical, solutions-oriented mindset to his community work. His legal career is centered on helping businesses achieve their goals through strategic planning, governance, and risk management—skills he now applies to building Support Lunch into a sustainable, high-impact nonprofit.  What began as a local effort to support Saint Louis schools is growing into a movement of generosity and dignity that’s steadily expanding its reach and impact.

Outside of work, David is an active community volunteer and leader who enjoys giving back through local initiatives. He also loves spending time with his family, exploring St. Louis’s vibrant food scene, and cheering on his favorite hometown sports teams.
